Shared Sessions Pt.1: bringing composers and session musicians together

What if you could have a 30-minute session with an experienced string ensemble in a professional studio? That is the opportunity the Dutch professional association of media composers, BCMM, offered their members. They teamed up with Dutch String Collective and Groenland Studios to organize the Shared Sessions. Over two days,16 composers had the chance to record with the leading Dutch studio recording string ensemble. In this first video, PK documents the experience of both the composers and the studio musicians: what expectations did they bring to the studio? What makes an ideal session? How does communication work in a larger recording setting and what is the role of the backing track? In the upcoming second video, we’ll take a more in-depth look into the workflow of some of the recordings.
