Music for The lions by the River Tigris - Daan Hofman

In this video, film composer Daan Hofman provides insight into his working method while composing the music for the documentary The Lions of the River Tigris. He discusses his choice of instrument, his approach to the film, and the development of the music throughout the film. The documentary The Lions of the Tigris is a remarkable film. Mosul, one of the world's oldest cities, lay in ruins after years of ISIS occupation and the devastating struggle for freedom.

In this unexpectedly hopeful film, we follow three men who seek to rebuild not only the city but also its soul. Bashar, a fisherman, returns repeatedly to his bombed-out family home, where a marble lintel carved with the two lions from the film's title is the last remaining reminder of his past. Fakhri, a flamboyant antiques collector, dreams of placing the lions at the entrance to his self-founded museum. And Fadel, a musician, revives songs censored during the ISIS occupation. Director Zaradasht Ahmed depicts a city slowly recovering from its trauma with dignity and tenderness.
